Dear Mercy Families,

 

Today is one of those days that I am really missing being able to be physically present with my colleagues, your daughters, and my family. Like so many of you I cannot wait to be able to see people in person- to think that we took that for granted just a couple months ago! 

Last week I received a very thoughtful email from a parent. I have spent hours searching for that email to reply to, and I am afraid I somehow deleted it. To whomever sent it- thank you (and please resend it!). It put a smile on my face and meant the world to me. 

What a wonderful reminder of how simple it is to bring joy to others. I hope we all take time this week to reach out to a long-lost friend or to say a simple thank you to someone who has done something special for us.  

 

Thank you to all of you for having faith in Mercy and trusting us during these unknown times- your trust has made our jobs so much easier. How thankful Mercy is to have you as part of our community- you are a blessing!

This is the Distance Learning schedule for your reference. Students are required to sign into Advisory every Tuesday from 1:10-1:20 for a check in with their Advisor. Students are expected to participate in Collaboration period activities and be available if contacted by a faculty or staff member by email, Gchat, or Zoom until 2:30. 

Senior Pinning

You are invited to join us at the "virtual" Senior Pinning Ceremony which will be held on Monday, May 18th from 5:30 - 6:30 pm in each of your homes via Zoom. 

 

We look forward to gathering together to celebrate this first Graduation Activity with each of you! Due to the shelter in place in effect, this year your daughters will be pinned by one of you, or an older sister who is a Mercy Alum.

 

Seniors are asked to complete this Senior Pinning Form to give us the name of their pinner which will be read during the ceremony.

College Kickoff Meeting

It is time to schedule your College Kickoff meetings with Mrs. Ohanessian. Please click on this link to schedule a meeting. The meetings will include information about testing, the college application process, and upcoming events

Class Rings

We are so excited for your daughter to take the next step in her journey of the Sisterhood at Mercy and order her class ring! We have coordinated with Josten's two possible ways for you to order a class ring for next year. The first is to go to www.citygradsf.com and fill out the form online. You can submit the form and payment in full online, or you can print the online form and mail a $75 deposit to Mr. Reid. The second option is to use the paper order form that was given out in the class ring meeting, and mail it to Mr. Ried with the $75 deposit. Payment plans are available. Orders placed by May 15th will guarantee delivery for the Junior Ring Ceremony in the Fall.

Dance Team Tryouts

 

If anyone is interested in trying out for the Mercy dance team, please click HERE to fill out the questionnaire and follow the instructions to submit a video. All submissions of video must be in by May 7 at 10pm.

Spring Team Uniform returns May 7th: 11am-3pm, uniforms should be returned to the Athletic Director office in Grassilli. All athletes on spring teams are expected to return all uniforms and team gear that were issued. The middle gate will be open. Drive up the road and a table will be set up in front of the gates of the swimming pool. Simply place your uniform and/or gear on the table. Please respect the social distance of 6 feet if anyone is already standing near table.

Expectations with the return: All uniforms have to be thoroughly washed and cleaned. The uniforms should be sprayed with Lysol and placed in a clear plastic bag. Please write athlete's name on the outside of the bag being returned.

We still have a few athletes from the soccer teams that did not turn in uniforms from the winter
season. You should be returning your uniform and/or deck jacket as well May 5 or 7.
Any uniforms or gear not returned by the end of the school year will result in the family being
charged a replacement fee.

Spring Sports Individual and Team photos

Mercy has learned that as of mid-march, Lifetouch Photography furloughed their lab technicians due to COVID19. They are forecasting a significant delay in printing spring sports individual and team photos for their schools. In the meantime, they have agreed to provide a digital copy of the team sports. We have made them available for you to download here. If you have purchased individual or team photos, you will still receive the professional, high-quality prints in the mail to your home. When Lifetouch provides a better understanding of print timetables, we will communicate that with you.

Summer Book Clubs Preparation 
The library is preparing for this year's Summer Reading Book Clubs - where our students select a book for a little light reading over the summer, and then discuss it in August. During May students and staff will be voting to select 5 or 6 books from a longlist of 15.  From these 5 or 6 books the girls will each select one that appeals to them the most, and will join a group of girls reading that same book. In August faculty and staff will host book club style meetings where we have a casual, fun discussion of the books read. The longlist of books is here.  The short list will be available on Thursday of this week.  Please consider discussing with your student what book or books they voted for and why.  

 

Student Absences from Distance Learning: Please be sure to email attendance@mercyhsb.com if your daughter will miss all or part of her Distance Learning for the day. It is important that we maintain accurate attendance records for our students. Thank you!

 

Community Opportunities 

We encourage you to familiarize yourselves with opportunities that are available to both our parent and student community. These will be led by our faculty and staff and include sessions and activities such as College Counseling, Wellness Challenges, Lunchtime Meditations, and home workouts. Please encourage your daughters to take advantage of these opportunities for connection and movement! Click here to view the weekly schedule on our Distance Learning Resources page.
