Dear Mercy Families,

Tomorrow is our Making a Difference From Home event at 7PM. I truly hope you will go to www.mercyhsb.com/giving/mad to tune in to our half hour livestream presentation. I know it will be a wonderful reminder of the tremendous community we are a part of, and I think we can all use time together to celebrate community and Mercy!

 

In the midst of COVID-19, I find it so powerful to be able to work at Mercy High School and not just because of the incredible faculty, staff, and students that I get to interact with on a daily basis, but simply because of the emotions that the word Mercy brings with it.

To me, mercy is synonymous with compassion, and I think this is what our world needs most right now. I have a feeling that years later when we look back at what the world looked like during the days of COVID-19, we will reflect on two things. Of course there will be a focus on the tremendous amount of lives that were so tragically lost. I also believe that there will be a focus on how humanity was restored a bit through stories of how deeply kindness was shared in difficult times. To be at Mercy High School when mercy is needed most in our world makes me very proud to be an alumna and to be the Head of School for a place that embodies the mission of the Sisters of Mercy.

Let's honor the tireless work of the Sisters by continuing to bestow mercy, compassion, empathy and understanding to all of those who are in great need right now. I hope that others can know mercy through their interactions with all of us.

We continue to keep all of you in our prayers, and we hope that our community is spared the pain of loss due to COVID-19.

Summer Book Clubs Preparation 
The library is preparing for this year's Summer Reading Book Clubs - where our students select a book for a little light reading over the summer, and then discuss it in August. During May students and staff will be voting to select 5 or 6 books from a longlist of 15.  From these 5 or 6 books the girls will each select one that appeals to them the most, and will join a group of girls reading that same book. In August faculty and staff will host book club style meetings where we have a casual, fun discussion of the books read. The longlist of books is here.  The short list will be available on Thursday of this week.  Please consider discussing with your student what book or books they voted for and why.  

Class Rings

We are so excited for your daughter to take the next step in her journey of the Sisterhood at Mercy and order her class ring! We have coordinated with Josten's two possible ways for you to order a class ring for next year. The first is to go to www.citygradsf.com and fill out the form online. You can submit the form and payment in full online, or you can print the online form and mail a $75 deposit to Mr. Reid. The second option is to use the paper order form that was given out in the class ring meeting, and mail it to Mr. Ried with the $75 deposit. Payment plans are available. Orders placed by May 15th will guarantee delivery for the Junior Ring Ceremony in the Fall.

Dance Team Tryouts

 

If anyone is interested in trying out for the Mercy dance team, please click HERE to fill out the questionnaire and follow the instructions to submit a video. All submissions of video must be in by May 7 at 10pm.

Now accepting tryout videos for our 2020/2021 Cheer Team at Mercy Burlingame 

What you need to do: 

 

1. Go online and watch and learn the material

• Go Mercy Go (Sideline Cheer)
• Fightsong (Short Dance with Toe Touch jump)
• Flyer body positions. Only if you are interested in being the flyer position! (heel stretch, scorpion, aerobesque)
• All 3 Jumps (Toe Touch, Hurdler & Pike)

2. Practice them so you are confident!

3. Take a video of the skills above and send them to our coach Becca Lam rebelselitesf@gmail.com 

4. All videos for new & returning athletes must be turned in by April 30th at 10pm.

Spring Team Uniform returns 
On May 5th and May 7th: 11am-3pm, uniforms should be returned to the Athletic Director office in Grassilli. All athletes on spring teams are expected to return all uniforms and team gear that were issued. The middle gate will be open. Drive up the road and a table will be set up in front of the gates of the swimming pool. Simply place your uniform and/or gear on the table. Please respect the social distance of 6 feet if anyone is already standing near table.

Expectations with the return: All uniforms have to be thoroughly washed and cleaned. The uniforms should be sprayed with Lysol and placed in a clear plastic bag. Please write athlete's name on the outside of the bag being returned.

We still have a few athletes from the soccer teams that did not turn in uniforms from the winter
season. You should be returning your uniform and/or deck jacket as well May 5 or 7.
Any uniforms or gear not returned by the end of the school year will result in the family being
charged a replacement fee.

Student Absences from Distance Learning: Please be sure to email attendance@mercyhsb.com if your daughter will miss all or part of her Distance Learning for the day. It is important that we maintain accurate attendance records for our students. Thank you!

 

Community Opportunities 

We encourage you to familiarize yourselves with opportunities that are available to both our parent and student community. These will be led by our faculty and staff and include sessions and activities such as College Counseling, Wellness Challenges, Lunchtime Meditations, and home workouts. Please encourage your daughters to take advantage of these opportunities for connection and movement! Click here to view the weekly schedule on our Distance Learning Resources page.
