Catherine McAuley never hesitated to reach out to the sick. She comforted them in their darkest moments, and she held them when others viewed them as untouchable. The wonder and magic of Catherine's humanity can perhaps be understood by our students as we imagine Catherine in today's society. In a world filled with unknowns about COVID-19, I imagine Catherine would be one of the first volunteers to support the sick and to sit with those dying while offering comforting words and prayers.
What a gift Catherine's mission has been and how thankful we are to be together during these trying times.
I know there have been many emails sent home regarding COVID-19, and it is our goal to continue to keep you informed as new information comes our way. Please know all of our decisions will be centered around what is best for our students.
As we prepare to transition into a week of Distance Learning I encourage you to visit our webpage that hosts all COVID-19 school communications as well as our webpage that is home to our Distance Learning Program information. I hope to be able to speak with you later this week and next through Distance Learning Zoom calls.
Should you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your trust in Mercy High School.
Thanks, ALL SCHOOL NEWS Your daughter may have been exposed to lice as there are students in our community who have reported cases of head lice this week.
In order to ensure that our students are free of lice, please examine your daughter's hair and scalp for evidence of live lice, lice eggs, or nits (egg casings left behind after lice have hatched). If lice or eggs are present, they will be found close to the scalp. If you find head lice please notify the school or others with whom your child may have had direct head to head contact. Students with head lice should be treated as soon as possible to minimize the spread to other individuals.
Students with lice may not return to school until they have been properly treated and the lice no longer exists.
Please click HERE for more information on lice.
Thank you for your partnership in ensuring we get back to a lice-free environment as soon as possible. CLASS INFORMATION SOPHOMORE PARENTS Dear Class of 2022 Parents and Students, On Tuesday, Bill Reid from Jostens met with the class of 2022 and spoke to them about the ordering and wearing of the Mercy Class Ring. Each student was provided an envelope with the ordering information enclosed. Please review this with your student. The ring design is unique to Mercy High School and not available at any other school. It is the same ring design worn by Mercy alumnae, current students and future students. Rings ordered now will be blessed and delivered as a group at the Junior Ring Ceremony in the fall. Mr. Reid was set to return next week for orders, but with the school closure, these dates will need to be rescheduled once we return from the virus break. Once these dates are set we will reach out once again. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mr. Reid at either 415-472-7871 or bill.reid@jostens.com. Games & Practice Schedule March 12- 18
Athlete of the Week Kyra, a Freshman, had never played lacrosse prior to the start of her season here at Mercy. The team was in need of a goalie and Kyra volunteered to play the position. Not only has she started each game so far in the season, she has played every minute. To say that she has stepped up for the team is an understatement! The team has started with a 2-1 record with hard fought victories over Castilleja and Carlmont. Castilleja is in the highest division of the WBAL and Carlmont in the 2nd division. Kyra had 8 saves out of 16 shots vs Castilleja and followed up with 12 saves out of shots faced vs Carlmont on Monday. Her overall save percentage for the season is 44% with over 40% considered to be above average. Great job Kyra, keep it going!!!!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS From the Parent & Student Handbook 2019-2020 "Uniform regulations are not dependent upon the weather. However, from November 2019-February 28, 2020, students are allowed to wear non-Mercy winter jackets and vests. Acceptable colors are navy blue, black, white and gray. This does not apply to fleece, sweatshirts and windbreakers. Please do not wear non-Mercy outerwear on formal uniform and liturgy days. A student will receive a uniform infraction if she fails to comply with the preceding."
Please note that we are no longer in the window where Non-Mercy Outerwear is permitted with the uniform. However, students can wear non-Mercy waterproof jackets with a hood, puffy vests, and rainboots, if rain is predicted in the forecast.
We have had a reported case of Mononucleosis at Mercy. Students with mono are required to stay home from school until they are cleared by their doctor and are not contagious. Click HERE for more information from the CDC.
