Catherine McAuley once said, "The tender Mercy of God has given us one another," and at Christmas time I couldn't be more thankful for this. Thank you for being part of Mercy, and thank you for choosing Mercy so we can be a part of your daughter's life. It is a true gift that Mercy has brought us together to be part of a larger community. I have enjoyed the time we have spent getting to know one another, and hope that with a new semester starting in January, you will consider all of the upcoming opportunities such as parent mixers, Lobster Feed, and Making A Difference to further immerse yourself in our school and parent community.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year! May you find tiny Christmas miracles in the many moments of Mercy and compassion that surround you this holiday season.
Please encourage your daughters to rest over break and to take care of themselves. We look forward to seeing you all in 2020!

Mercy's Day of Code Event Mercy held its first ever "Day of Code at Mercy event on Saturday, Dec. 14th with 19 middle school girls attending along with 14 of our own High School girls acting as mentors for the event. The middle school students had a fantastic time coding for 3 hours using a number of "Hour of Code" sites ranging from beginner to intermediate levels depending on the experience they had. Many of the girls entered a coding competition through Codehs.com where they coded a unique musical ensemble. Our own students even coded their own memes and musical ensembles. A great time was had by all. We are hoping to extend this into a "Girls Who Code Club", as all of those in attendance were excited at the proposition of being part of that group. We are looking for any parents that might be willing to help with this type of outreach for our local middle school girls as well as our current students as an after school event. If you are interested, please contact Pat Bradley.

Looking forward to a fun night on January 24th! EDUCATIONAL TRAVEL Hello future travelers, Think the trip to the Alps and Mediterranean is too expensive at almost $4,800. How much would it cost if you booked the European trip yourself?
Round trip airline tickets $1,250 Meals (Breakfast, Dinner) $30/day) - $270 Day 1 and 2 Drei Konige (cheapest found – former prison room) $68/night - $136 Pilatis Alps tour with guide - $189 Guided walking tour of Lucerne - $256 Bus from Lucerne to Lake Como – $15
This is over $2000 and you have barely made it through the first two days and without a guide for the complete trip who speaks the language and some of the transportation. Plus, you have to do all the booking yourself. You still have seven more days and 4 more countries to cover. Whew!
Don't forget to sign up before Christmas. Remember, you do not have to pay the cost all at once. There are payment plans; and if you call, they will work with you even beyond that.
If you are considering, please let me know as the trip starts to fill up this time of year. I'm attempting to get an extension for the deadline. Email rwatts@mercyhsb.com with questions or call the company directly.

![]() Athlete of the Week CC has been a 4 year Varsity member of the soccer program. This year she has had to move over to center defense on the backline. Her game has grown tremendously this past off season. Her skill, leadership and tenacity helps control the defense. She has shown a willingness to do whatever it takes to help this year's squad achieve a high level of success. Currently, the team is 4-1-1 and CC has played in 5 of those games and the defense has allowed an average of only one goal per game. Great start CC, keep it going!!!!!

Financial Assistance Program for 2020-2021 We recognize that families have varying financial needs and make financial sacrifices to provide their daughters with a strong academic education. Awards are made for a one-year period, families must re-apply each year. The application process is fair and confidential, assessed by an outside firm (TADS) that specializes in school financial assistance programs. Financial aid awards are made based on a family's demonstrated need and the availability of school funds.
All families who would like to be considered for financial assistance for the 2020-21 school year must complete an online financial aid application and submit all necessary documentation. The deadline for applying is no later than January 15, 2020. Visit the website HERE for more information and the online TADS application. Late applications are processed and reviewed, but meeting the appropriate deadline is strongly recommended to be included in the first round of aid awards. Please contact Lynn Beal at 650-762-1101 or lbeal@mercyhsb.com if you have any questions.
