FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear Mercy Families,

Catherine McAuley once said that "a good beginning is of great importance," and I couldn't agree more. This school year we were determined to begin a year committed to sharing our passion and empathy with our students and families, and to providing a variety of experiences that would allow our students' true selves to shine through. In looking at how much our students have accomplished, and more importantly- how happy they are in the hallways- we find ourselves thrilled that the 2019-2020 school year has started off so successfully.

Our students have immersed themselves in service learning opportunities, they have allowed themselves to be vulnerable in their retreats, they have been challenged and inspired in their academic courses, and they continue to share their true beauty with their friends and teachers.

At Mercy we have so many different clubs and extracurricular activities that allow students to explore their passions. One of these is our Student Technology Team, and this week they have challenged our faculty, staff, and students to digital-free days.

In the spirit of our student leaders, I encourage you all to take one night this week to suggest to your daughters that they put their cell phones aside and to go on a walk with you or go for a drive to get some ice cream. It is hard to believe that your daughters will be off to college later this year or in less than four years- soak up all the time you can. Though they may roll their eyes when you ask them to put the phone down- I know firsthand that they will treasure those memories of just being with you.

It is our hope that all of our students have chosen to get involved in at least one extracurricular at this point whether it be a sport, a club, or a service project. If you feel your daughter has not yet found her niche or is in need of an extra push, please reach out to us. We want nothing more than to partner with you to ensure your daughter is getting everything out of her Mercy experience.

Thanks,

Natalie

Athlete of the Week
Golf team member Maya Zeidan
Despite not feeling well, Maya, a Senior, still played in the match on 10/3 at Palo Alto Hills Country Club against Castilleja and shot a 40 and finished as best scorer for the team. It was Maya's low score that help secure the victory 242 to 246. Since coming from her sick bed, Maya has been the lowest scorer in her last three matches with scores of 39, 40 and 40, leading Mercy's golf team to 4 straight victories and their league record of 7-3, good for 3rd place in the WBAL. The team will be playing in the League tournament this next Wednesday Oct 23 with hopes of securing a CCS bid. Great job Maya, keep it going!!!!

Every minute of class time counts! However, we do encourage students to stay home when they are ill. It is very important that a parent/guardian call the Main Office to let the school know their daughter will be absent that day. We have a 24 hour message line that we check regularly. The phone number is (650) 343-3631. For safety purposes we keep attendance records and need to make sure every student is accounted for during every period of the day. Thanks for your cooperation.
