Dear Mercy Families,

 

We celebrated Mercy Day on Friday, and it was one of the most engaging yet! The morning started with tradition - our All-School photo in the Mansion courtyard. The beautiful Mercy Day liturgy was centered on the idea of 'home' - a place where you belong. Two Freshmen students sang an incredible rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", and the homily reminded us that throughout life, our strength and faith will be tested but it is important to remember that we do not walk alone, and can always come home.

 

This year's theme explored what it means to be a confident woman in today's world. We were blessed to have Mercy Alumnae come 'home' to conduct workshops with students on topics including car maintenance, budgeting and finance, cooking skills, and self care.

 

As always, Mercy Day concluded with a spirited rally on the Green. There were class competitions and Spirit Squad routines. We even had a Teacher Tug-of-War tournament, which was won by the English Department! Many Alumnae stayed to laugh, sing, and cheer with us. The strength of our Mercy Sisterhood bond was deeply felt, and we are filled with gratitude.

 

Once again I feel the need to thank you for choosing Mercy- your decision is not just a gift to your daughters, but it is also a gift to us. Thank you for letting us be part of your daughter's life journey and for allowing us to be blessed with the joy and talents that she brings to Mercy.

On Friday, October 11th, we will have a presentation on the PSAT, standardized testing and the testing plan for junior and senior years as it relates to the college process-with coffee and tea.

Come hang out with Mercy Dads on Monday, October 7th at Fiddler's Green in Millbrae. Special thanks to the Mcelhone Family, a Mercy Alumnae Family, for hosting us! We'll be watching the 49er vs Cleveland Browns game with appetizers and good company.

Mercy is hosting a Mercy Parent Club meeting for our Spanish Speaking Families! We will be joined by the Head of School, Ms. Cirigliano-Brosnan, and Spanish Teachers, Ms. Castillo and Ms. Orantes, to give an introduction to our parent club, discuss ways to get involved at Mercy, and allow for questions and feedback on what resources you'd like to see. Order your cap and gown and graduation announcements at school on October 10 and 11 during lunch in the cafeteria. Every senior must order her cap and gown. No exceptions! Extra order forms are in the main office.

Tuesday Oct 8 is the Annual Dig Pink Volleyball Game. We will be playing Notre Dame Belmont at Serra High. Frosh at 4pm, Junior Varsity at 5pm and Varsity at 6:30pm. On this night, we will have a brief ceremony prior to the Varsity game in which we make special mention to any members of the Mercy community that have been impacted by Breast Cancer. That being, those who have survived, those currently battling the disease and unfortunately, those who we have lost. If you would like to have anyone close to you mentioned at this ceremony, please email Athletic Director Charlie Dougherty and give him the name of whom you would want recognized.

At the Dig Pink Game, we ask for an admission donation of $5 for adults and $3 for students. We will also be having a concession stand with food and drink donated by all our Volleyball families. All proceeds from the admissions and concession sales will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Freshmen Athletes and Parents:
We are holding a Positive Coaching Alliance seminar that is mandatory for all Freshmen athletes and at least one accompanying parent/guardian. This applies to any Freshmen athlete who is currently playing a fall sport and/or plans to play a sport in the winter or spring season. The session will be on Wednesday October 9 from 6:30-7:30pm in the Great Hall.

Cross Country runner Junior Nancy Astabie
This season, Nancy's effort and hard work have catapulted her to be one of the top seven runners for Mercy and a securing a spot on the Varsity team for the upcoming league competitions. Nancy, who is a Junior, has consistently achieved personal records this season, including improving her time at the Ram Invitational this past Saturday by 1 minute and 34 seconds. Her teammates gravitate to her for advice at meets and follow her leadership and example during workouts at practice. Great job Nancy, keep it going!

Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors will take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 16th. More information with details of the test day will be announced shortly. This is a practice test for the SAT and the College Board has many resources to help your daughter prepare. Students can look up their old PSAT scores and review for this standardized test. If there are issues logging in, please click HERE for a video to help.

Magnus Health - Urgent - Action Required!
Please update all student information in Magnus Health.
This was due before the start of the school year.
This information is mandatory and must be updated each year for student safety. It is important that we know how to contact parents/guardians or emergency representatives in cases of emergency or a school wide evacuation. Magnus also stores all student health information like allergies, medications, instructions and history so we will be able to assist your daughter when necessary.
