As this school year comes to a close with graduation on Sunday I wanted to thank all of you for your support this year. We are so fortunate to have your daughters at Mercy. All you do for Mercy High School is truly appreciated.
For our about-to-be alumnae parents, thank you for sharing your daughters with us. Each class leaves its own legacy and the Class of 2019 is no exception. We wish them all the best as they move on, confident young women, ready to make their mark on the world.
For our returning parents, we look forward to your daughters returning in the fall. There are many positive changes happening at Mercy. It will be an exciting time for the girls as they continue to be challenged.
As you know the girls have reading assignments during the summer. The rising seniors will be reading Where You Go Is Not Who You'll Be by Frank Bruni. The book primarily deals with the college selection process and what students need to consider when apply to colleges. We are asking our Board of Directors to read the book and I invite all of you - no matter what grade your daughter is in - to read it, also. The girls will be discussing the book in August. Parents will be invited to an evening session to the book in early September. You will find it informative and eye-opening.
As I end my time at Mercy at the end of June, let me add my personal thanks for your support, your generosity and for your daughters. When people ask me what I will miss most my answer is always the girls. We have amazing young women at Mercy and it has truly been a privilege to get to know them and to work with all of you.

Summer Book club reading. The library co-ordinates summer book clubs for all girls returning next year. Each student chose from one of 6 books to read for fun over the summer, and we will be running book clubs to discuss each book with teachers and faculty members leading during a collaboration late in August next year. Ask your student which book it was she chose. They are all fun (or engrossing at least) to read, and would be fabulous to take on road trips or to read by the pool. There is no assignment with these books, just remember enough of it to discuss casually as part of a book group. (This reading is in addition to the English and AP reading that they are expected to do, and which have assignments linked to them.)
