WEEKLY FEATURE

March is National Athletic Training Month! Though athletic injuries can happen at any age and level, the Mercy Athletic Department strives to prevent injury in our student-athletes, and treat injury when it does happen. Our Certified Athletic Trainer, Keri Sotak, implements injury prevention programs in Strength & Conditioning, incorporating sport-specific exercises that will help reduce the risk of common injury during the athlete's preseason work. Mercy student-athletes are invited to rehabilitate any acute and chronic injuries with Keri during lunch hours and after school, and can also receive immediate injury evaluation at home sporting events. Keri uses a wide variety of rehabilitation techniques, soft-tissue therapies, and other interventions to successfully return the student safely to the sport she loves. Please visit the Sports Medicine page on the Mercy website to learn more about Keri and her program. For students interested in learning about sports medicine and the health sciences, Keri is teaching an Introduction to Sports Medicine class in the 2019-2020 school year!

Athlete of the Week:
Softball Player - Freshman, Sorina Larsen:
Sorina made her first high school start as a Pitcher this past Thursday vs. Mercy SF. She made the most of the opportunity as she threw a no hitter in a 6 inning 12-0 victory. Sorina had 12 strikeouts in addition to her complete game effort. Sorina works year round on her pitching and takes great pride in developing all her pitches. She is very committed to being at all practices and games. She will be counted on by the coaches to be a vital part of the Mercy pitching this season. Great job Sorina, keep it going!
