WEEKLY FEATURE

Image

Today the Mercy community celebrated Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten Season. Lent is a period of 40 days in which Christians prepare through reflection and fasting for the Passion; the death and resurrection of Jesus. During our prayer service, the students and faculty received Ashes on their foreheads, which is a sign of penance and our mortality. During Lent students and faculty will have the opportunity to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, reflect during chapel visits, and learn more about the Mass during our Lenten Series: Altaration - The Mystery of the Mass Revealed.

Athlete of the Week:
Lacrosse Player - Julia Reilly:
Starting from the fall conditioning sessions, Julia has been rock solid in her preparation for the Lacrosse season. Only a sophomore, Julia is going to be counted on as one of the team's main offensive threats. She is also very skilled in her defensive work as well. In the first three games, Julia has scored in all 3 games that Mercy has played thus far. She had 3 goals in the opening game vs. Urban, followed by single goals in games vs. Burlingame High and George Washington. Julia is able to use her size and strength to make her way into the crease area and be a threat to score at all times. Given the fact that this year's team lost their leading scorer from last year, Julia will be counted to help provide that scoring each game. More importantly, Julia can always be counted on to attend every practice and game. Great job Julia, keep it going!
