Tri-School Mardi Gras will take place tomorrow! A annual tradition for over a decade, the event is a collaborative effort between Mercy and Serra's French programs. Students will use their French in a real-life setting and learn about French and Francophone cultures - a vital component of the world language curriculum. Starting in September, first and second-level students from both schools write each other monthly pen pal letters in French. In these letters, they practice vocabulary learned in class, such as describing themselves and their likes and dislikes. These students then meet each other for the first time in person at Mardi Gras, where they practice conversational French. Third and fourth-level students, especially those in the Mercy French Honors Society and the Serra French Club, take on a leadership role in the event. They reflect on ways to bring culture alive for their younger peers and co-lead activities. Students continue using their "franglais" with their new friends during a French-themed lunch, and the day ends with a French performance from each of the classes. This year, we will have around 120 French students from both schools participating in Mardi Gras.

Athlete of the Week:
Cheerleader - Natalia Allen
Natalia was out with an injury that prevented her from participating at the State meet in early February. However, she came to every practice she could and worked with her replacement for the Jamz State to learn the team's routine. She did everything she could to heal quickly so she could go to Nationals. Natalia was finally cleared to participate on the last practice day before the trip. Only a freshman, Natalia has proven to be an outstanding athlete. She isn't afraid to try new things and she picks up the choreography super fast. Natalia did amazing during competition and helped our showmanship score be the highest in our division at the Nationals in Las Vegas. Her energy and jumps were outstanding. More importantly, this past weekend our Varsity Cheer team won the Jamz Nationals title for the 2nd year in a row. Great job Natalia!
