WEEKLY FEATURE

What is Catholic Schools Week? Catholic Schools Week is a national celebration of Catholic education and an opportunity to recognize the value and contribution of Catholic education to the Church and society. Catholic Schools Week is sponsored by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA). According to NCEA, there are more than 6,000 Catholic schools nationwide.

An annual tradition that began in 1974, Catholic schools across the nation commemorate Catholic Schools Week with activities and celebrations. Events showcase and celebrate the rich traditions and the value of Catholic education on a local and national level.

This week the Sisters of Mercy, students, faculty staff, alumnae and donors will be honored by a morning prayer for their intentions. Among a variety of activities, students will learn in Religion class about St. Elizabeth Ann Seton the Patron of Catholic Education and will enjoy an ice cream party. If you are interested in learning more about the value of Catholic Education please visit our website and read Why Choose Catholic Education written by Sandy Flaherty Director of Catholic Education.

We are excited for Winter Formal on Friday at the Regency Center Ballroom in San Francisco! Students must attend the entire day of school on Friday to be able to go to the dance, unless they are a Freshmen or Sophomore who earned Formal Day off through the Dance-A-Thon. Dance check in is from 7:00-8:00pm and students can be picked up from 9:30-10:00pm. If a student is going to arrive late or needs to leave early, please contact Coach RG. Parking can be difficult in the City, so we encourage all students to be dropped off by a parent or carpool. Lifetouch will be there for professional photos and will take cash or checks

Financial Assistance Program for 2019-2020

We recognize that families have varying financial needs and make financial sacrifices to provide their daughters with a strong academic education. Awards are made for a one-year period, families must re-apply each year. The application process is fair and confidential, assessed by an outside firm (TADS) that specializes in school financial assistance programs. Financial aid awards are made based on a family's demonstrated need and the availability of school funds.

All families who would like to be considered for financial assistance for the 2019-20 school year must complete an online financial aid application and submit all necessary documentation. The deadline for applying 8th grade families is no later than January 7, 2019 and for returning 10th, 11th and 12th grade families February 8, 2019*. Visit the website HERE for more information and the online TADS application.  Late applications are processed and reviewed, but meeting the appropriate deadline is strongly recommended to be included in the first round of aid awards. Please contact Lynn Beal at 650-762-1101 or lbeal@mercyhsb.com if you have any questions.

*Please note: Families that have both an applying 8th grader and returning student must meet the January 7, 2019 deadline.
