WEEKLY FEATURE

Image

Tri-School Productions' Sense & Sensibility opens this week! The Cast & Crew have been working hard for months to present their playful new adaptation of Jane Austen's beloved novel. Nine Mercy students were cast in the production, including one of the lead roles, Elinor Dashwood, being played by sophomore Mia Faillace. Mia took a moment to answer our questions about the 're-boot', playing an iconic character, the Tri-School Productions family, and more in this article! The story follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters—sensible Elinor and hypersensitive Marianne—after their father's sudden death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. Set in gossipy late 18th-century England, with a fresh female voice, the play is full of humor, emotional depth, and bold theatricality. Don't miss your chance to see it at Serra's Gellert Auditorium Oct. 26, 27; Nov 2, 3. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here, or from Serra students on Friday during lunch at Mercy for a discounted rate.

Financial Assistance Program for 2019-2020

We recognize that families have varying financial needs and make financial sacrifices to provide their daughters with a strong academic education. Awards are made for a one-year period, families must re-apply each year. The application process is fair and confidential, assessed by an outside firm (TADS) that specializes in school financial assistance programs. Financial aid awards are made based on a family's demonstrated need and the availability of school funds.

All families who would like to be considered for financial assistance for the 2019-20 school year must complete an online financial aid application and submit all necessary documentation. The deadline for applying 8th grade families is no later than January 7, 2019 and for returning 10th, 11th and 12th grade families February 8, 2019*. Visit the website HERE for more information and the online TADS application.  Late applications are processed and reviewed, but meeting the appropriate deadline is strongly recommended to be included in the first round of aid awards. Please contact Lynn Beal at 650-762-1101 or lbeal@mercyhsb.com if you have any questions.

*Please note: Families that have both an applying 8th grader and returning student must meet the January 7, 2019 deadline.

Reminder: Tell us how you'd like to be involved - Parent Volunteer Opportunities Survey HERE This is a reminder to fill out the volunteer survey or revisit the upcoming opportunities and let us know your volunteer interests. However you can support our community is always appreciated and adds to the richness of being here at Mercy. For more information please contact Amaré Silva at asilva@mercyhsb.com

Attention Senior Parents: Join us in celebrating your senior by placing a Yearbook Recognition Ad for your student by November 1st. To purchase, click HERE. Ad space is limited so purchase yours today!

A few tips for creating your ad
Words: Think about the message from the point of view of your daughter:

  • What moments in their life were significant?
  • Does the family have any inside jokes that would make the tribute special for her?
  • What do you admire most about her?

Photos:

  • The ad will look better if the photos have the same orientation as the picture box
  • Use clear high-resolution photos. If a photo is blurry, it will be blurry in the ad
  • Use the cropping tools on the website to crop out unnecessary background to focus on your student
