WEEKLY FEATURE

Image

For Deaf Awareness Week, Ms. Gachowski and American Sign Language (ASL) 2 and 3 students are coordinating different activities to engage the Mercy Community! Many students are wearing a sticker, badge, or ribbon for Deaf Awareness to indicate they are available to answer questions. There is a 'Sign of the Day' posted on Schoology - today's is "Dream" - which is fun for the students and faculty. Tuesday's bake sale raised over $157 to benefit the National Association of the Deaf! Other informational activities include Deaf related facts during announcements, posters of hand signs, Deaf comics, and memes around campus. The comics and memes have an explanation as to why it is funny in Deaf Culture. The ASL students are enjoying the opportunity to share their learning with the rest of Mercy!

Winter Sports
Any athlete planning on trying out for basketball or soccer is required to attend strength and conditioning sessions in Grassilli on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5pm. You are exempt if you are currently playing on a Mercy Fall sport or club team, but must notify Mr. Dougherty of the club team if you do not plan to attend. *Reminder: The amount of girls participating in conditioning will also help determine whether we field JV teams in both basketball and soccer.

Mercy Athlete of the Week:

Volleyball player Alister Borabo

Alister is a 3 year Varsity member and one of this year's team captains. Alister is one of the "go to" offensive players for the team. In the past week, she paced the team with 16 kills vs. Sacred Heart Prep, 43 kills in a tournament this past weekend and then had 17 kills in the victory over Mercy SF last night. The team feeds off of Alister's energy and will need her to maintain her level of play in order to secure a hopeful CCS bid at the end of the season. Great job Alister, keep it going!!!
