WEEKLY FEATURE

Image

It's Mercy Week! The celebration of Mercy Week is a beloved tradition for our community and commemorates the date in 1827 that Catherine McAuley established the first House of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland. Themed dress-up days and Friday's Mercy Day Rally spark school spirit, while the Mercy Day Mass is an important time to gather in reflection and prayer. This year, we recognize the many extraordinary women - past and present - who have changed the world through their dreams and actions with our theme, "Women with a Dream". Students will watch RBG, the recent documentary about U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, learn about the Sisters of Mercy Critical Concerns, and celebrate with a picnic lunch and rally on the Green.

At Mercy High School Burlingame, we strive to ensure that each student is healthy and balanced in mind, body and spirit. Part of that entails working with parents to ensure that they are well informed about issues today's youth are facing. Recently, the Food and Drug Administration shared that teens' use of e-cigarettes is "an epidemic proportion." Please read this New York Times article for more information.

Mercy Athlete of the Week:

Tennis Player Sharlene Fang

As a four year starter, senior Sharlene brings her positive attitude and solid consistency each time she steps on the court to represent Mercy Burlingame Varsity Tennis. Sharlene has helped our younger players develop as she leads by a quiet and strong example. This past week Sharlene exhibited a determined and "never give up" attitude as she helped our #1 doubles team win two, three set matches. Great job Sharlene, keep it going!
