WEEKLY FEATURE

Image

Mercy Faculty were busy this summer! Many of our teachers took in-depth professional development training to learn new ways of engaging students. With the mentorship of Knowing Technologies, Mercy's EdTech consultants, teachers are developing and implementing exciting strategies - here is a small sample! Michele Gachowski (American Sign Language) is using an app called Flipgrid that leverages the power of video interactions in a social learning platform, where students can receive quick and immediate feedback from their instructors and peers in real time. Stefanie Oudiz (English) is developing a program that teaches study skill strategies such as organization, time management, research, presentations, and reading in all curriculum areas - skills necessary for college and careers. Lindsay Stewart (Biology, Anatomy) has created a flexible learning environment in her classroom to provide different spaces for students to engage in the learning process (see picture above). Tom Wootten (Social Studies) is developing a number of project-based learning strategies, including the use of a green screen in students' multimedia projects.

Students, please remember that dyeing the entire head of hair an unnatural color is not allowed. This year one, one-inch colored streak is permitted. *We believe that starting the school day strong is important! Arriving on time before 7:55AM is imperative to your daughter's academic success. Missed class time can result in a student missing key information, as well as disrupt the learning environment. We appreciate your partnership in this.

For questions regarding the school uniform, please contact Dean of Students, Shannon LeCompte, at slecompte@mercyhsb.com.

Winter Sport Interest meetings
In order to get a sense as to how many girls plan to play a winter sport we are holding interest meetings that should be attended by all athletes planning on playing that sport.

  • Soccer: Aug 29 at 8:45 am. Meet in the Grassilli Center pool bleachers.
  • Basketball: Sept 6 at 2:30pm. Meet in the Grassilli Center pool bleachers

If your daughter is planning on playing a sport, please make sure they are fully registered and cleared through the Magnus system. You need to register each year your daughter plays a sport, accessible from the Parent Portal in Powerschool. A current sports physical (valid for one year) is required to show clearance. No athlete will be allowed to start tryouts unless they show clearance in the Magnus system.
