WEEKLY FEATURE

Feature Article

This year, Sarah Murphy has hosted three Young Adult Authors as guest speakers at the Mercy library. Our most recent guest author, Siobhan Vivian, visited last week to discuss her career and introduce her new book "Stay Sweet". She shared a poignant story about her struggles in high school, and how she felt rudderless until she discovered a passion in her creative writing class. She talked about the inspiration for "Stay Sweet", and how novels can take unexpected directions. The girls asked great questions about her creative process and how to get published!

Mercy Athlete of Week:

Track & Field thrower Asupa Mila

A freshman who just started throwing this year, Asupa has shown an incredible progression in both the discus and shot put. Since the season started March 13, Asupa's discus throw distance has improved an incredible 43ft 3in! She placed second last Saturday in the Mill's Invitational - Frosh/Soph division - with a throw of 98ft 2in. Asupa's shot put throw distance also improved by 7ft 2in! She is still learning all facets of the throwing technique, weight lifting, and staying positive in each meet. She is thriving and learning fast - her future is very bright! Keep it going, Asupa!

You need to complete registration through the Parent portal on PowerSchool each year your daughter plays a sport. Tryouts require full clearance in the Magnus system. You can start to register for the following school year (2018/19) after July 1, 2018.

Honors, AP, Tri-School Classes

Students should check in regularly with teachers and counselors about their grades. It's easy to get distracted by the end-of-the year events! It is especially important for students who plan to take an Honors, AP, or Tri-School to maintain their grades. Don't hesitate to discuss this with a current teacher, counselor, or the department chair if you have questions. If we do need to remove students from an advanced class because of grades, schedules could be rearranged and may not be able to accommodate selected courses.
