JUNIOR PARENTS

*JUNIOR CASE STUDIES

May 16th at 6:30pm

Serra Counseling is hosting our sixth annual Tri-school case studies program. This program is designed to help juniors and their parents learn more about the college admissions process through studying simulated students' application cases and then making admissions decisions for a fictitious college. Participants will read student files, evaluate transcripts, and review test scores, essays and recommendations, and will act as the Admissions Committee to decide which applicants will be admitted. Regardless of where you are planning to apply, this exercise will put you in the shoes of an admissions officer while exposing you to the complexities of the admissions process. We believe this exercise will be extremely valuable in helping both parents and students better understand the complexity of college admissions decisions. Participants must arrive no later than 6:30 p.m. to check in. Introduction will begin at 6:45 pm followed by the case study session lasting until 8:15 p.m. A small College Fair from 8:15 -8:45pm where students and parents may meet and talk with the college admissions officers .

Please RSVP to serracounseling@serrahs.com by May 9, 2018 include parent(s)and student name. Spaces are limited.

COLLEGE COUNSELING

*I know this has been a tough couple of weeks with the UC and CSU decisions coming out.  Many schools had a significant increase in applications only to create a more challenging and competitive year at the various campuses.  If you have any questions about appeals or waitlists, please come by and see me and I can help you navigate that process.

Here are just a few updates for you:

Update your Naviance:  Now that you have more decisions, please remember to update your naviance with decisions.  This will help future classes with their college lists.

Scholarships: Keep sending me your Merit Scholarships. Please send me the name of the scholarship, the amount and the school you have been awarded it from.  Please include schools that you are not planning to attend as well.

Financial Aid: Make sure you check your financial aid.  In some cases it could be in your online portal while other schools mail you an official letter.  Come by and see me with any questions.  You will need to accept your financial aid at the institution you plan to attend.

Update the Map: The college map needs to be updated.  You can add the schools you were offered admission to.  Come by and pick up a flag to put on the college map!

Please come by and see me with any questions or concerns you might have.

College Counselor
