Shout out to students interested in wildlife research!
Operation Wallace is an organization that runs a series of biological and conservation management research programs that operate in remote locations across the world.  These expeditions are designed with specific wildlife conservation aims in mind-from identifying areas of needing protection, through to implementing and assessing conservation management programs.  All students pay to join the expeditions that travel to destinations such as Ecuador and the Galapagos, Fiji, Honduras, Guyana, Croatia and many more!  Mercy is teaming up with Operation Wallace for an expedition in summer 2019.  A member of Operation Wallace will be on campus this March 26th from 1:30-2:30pm.  Please encourage your high schoolers to attend this informational presentation.

*Mercy Athlete of Week:
Sophomore Angela Giusto
Angela is a discus and shot put thrower on our Track and Field team. Angela has started out this season in grand fashion as she has already thrown the discus 100 ft 4.75in which places her 3rd on the all time list of discus throwers at Mercy B. That throw came at the WBAL league meet last Tuesday. In addition, this past Saturday, Angela had a most productive Christopher High Garlic Classic performance in which she won the Frosh-Soph division of the discus as well as placing second in the shot put. Earlier in the season, Angela won both the shot and discus in the Frosh/Soph division of the Kings Academy Invite. Angela currently sits in 4th place all time for Mercy in the shot put. Great job Angela, keep working hard!

COLLEGE COUNSELING

This is a very exciting time to be a senior.  Its almost spring break and soon you will all know where you will be off to next year.  Please come by and see me with any questions or anything you might need.

Check to see if you received the Cal Grant:  Log on to Webgrants4Students to see if you qualified for the Cal Grant.  It may say that you received it for one particular school but not to worry, you can change the school once you decide where you want to go to school next year.

Check your Admission Status: Be sure to be logging into portals provided by the schools and looking at your admissions status.  Some schools send an email, some schools post online, and some send some good old-fashioned snail mail.  Either way be on the lookout for the news and update your Naviance when you receive your notifications.

Follow up on your To Do Lists: Some colleges will have a To Do list or a "Next Steps" portal for you.  Be sure to follow all instructions sent by the schools.  This could hold up your financial aid or your housing.

Financial aid award Letters: Financial aid award letters will most likely be sent through the mail or be located in your student portal.  If you are having trouble accessing them or understanding them, please come by and see me.  It is important to know that once you decide to go to a particular school, you will need to accept your financial aid.  We will talk a little bit more about that during advisory.

Apply for Housing: If you know you are going to a specific school, apply for housing early.  Some housing (like SF State) is available now so you can register for housing now.  If it is impacted, all the more reason to apply early.

Community College: Students planning to attend the community colleges should be signing up for orientation and placement tests.  Be sure to do this early!  The earlier you do it, the sooner you can register for classes.  You sign up through your WebSmart account. Come by and see me if you have any questions.

Visit Colleges: Over spring break try to visit schools as they most likely will be in session.  This way you can start to make final decisions on where you will be going.  Attending the Spring Admitted Student events is also a great way to see the school.  Remember to fill out the College Visit Request form and turn it into me before you go.

Scholarships: In order to have your scholarships noted in the graduation booklet they need to be sent to me by April 15th.  Please be sure to send me a list of scholarships along with the school name, scholarship name and the amount over four years as soon as possible.  Kudos to Mrs. Fischer's advisory for sending me all the scholarships last week!

Update your Naviance: Next week, we will be updating the bulletin board in Russell with Acceptances so please be sure to put them in Naviance.  If you want to come and put up your own flag, come by my office!
