STUDENTS SPEAKING OUT AGAINST GUN VIOLENCE

On March 14th Mercy High School will join students from around the nation in speaking out against gun violence. Responding to requests from students and as part of our mission as a Mercy school respecting the Sisters of Mercy Critical Concern of Nonviolence, we will be using collaboration time on this day to educate, inform and react to the horrific number of acts of gun violence against school students.  Over the next 14 days students will be learning about all the issues concerning the national focus on gun violence – the 2nd amendment, rights of hunters, gun control, causes of violence, etc. On March 14th the schedule will be:

  • 9:30 a.m.      Prayer and student presentations – Mercy Green
  • 9:45 a.m.      Walk to El Camino Real
  • 10:00 a.m.    17 minutes of silence in honor of the 17 teachers, coaches and students                                                killed in Parkland, Florida
  • 10:17 a.m.    Walk to Mercy
  • 10:30 a.m.    Letter writing to federal and state officials about students' individual                                concerns addressing gun violence

As we approach this date there will be articles and videos, posters and letters developed by the students. As an administration, faculty and staff we support their efforts and their advocacy. What they are doing on March 14th is as important as classroom instruction and anything they can learn from a textbook or video.

If you would like to join us on the lawn and on the walk to El Camino and back we welcome your presence and support.

PSAT INFO

*PSAT: During Advisory last week and this week students watched this video to learn more about their scores on the PSAT and how they can use this information to prepare for the SAT and future PSAT dates.  Matching your student's scores with Khan Academy will give your students an inside look at their scores and allow them to gain better knowledge in areas they need the most support in.

*PSAT 10: On Monday March 26th, Sophomores will take the PSAT 10 at Mercy.  Please find the Student Guide here.  Sophomores will not have class that day and will only be taking the exam.  We will be sending out more information as we get closer to the date, but please feel free to contact Mrs. Ohanessian with any questions about the PSAT.

WebGrants for Students: Make sure you check your WebGrants Portal to see if you have ben awarded the Cal Grant.

Have you heard from schools?: If you have been admitted to a university and received a scholarship, please email me the name of the scholarship, the school, and the amount.  This is from all schools you have been awarded scholarships from.  We will include this information in the graduation booklet.

*Did you receive an email from a CSU about missing information?

If you forgot to put a course on your CSU application and you are missing some of your A-G requirements, some of the CSU's might be reaching out to you to fix this problem.  Don't be alarmed, but be sure to complete the steps they outline in their email.  I find it helpful to read the instructions thoroughly before getting started and then referring back to them once you are done.
