Celebration of Life for Carol Galletta 
Mercy High School will be holding a celebration of Carol's life on Tuesday, November 21st at noon at Our Lady of Angels Church on Hillside Drive, followed by a reception at Kohl Mansion. This mass will be attended by all the Mercy students, faculty and staff. We invite all families, alumnae and others who knew and loved Carol to join us in remembering someone who was a special presence in all our lives.

 

Memorial Booklet for Carol Galletta

We are planning to do a special memorial booklet for Carol to be distributed at the mass on November 21st  and then as an e-book. If you would like to contribute to this book please email your tribute to khanrahan@mercyhsb.com  The tribute can be two or three lines, a paragraph or two or a small drawing. Deadline for submission is November 15th.

We will need a copy of your driver's license for the school's insurance policy.

*One Warm Coat Drive

The Sisters of Mercy's One Warm Coat drive will officially begin next Monday, November 13th and will end on Friday, January 12th.  Hope you've been gathering up your clean and gently used men, women and children coats, jackets and sweaters.  The blue bins will be located in Mercy Center front office and in Russell Hall main lobby.

 

This year we will be collecting for City Team Ministries who serve people of extreme poverty. They have a great outreach to those who live on the streets of our cities.

Mercy Alum Michele Ostertag '87 a founding member of the Rafiki Organization which addresses the needs of AIDS orphans in Kenya. The organization provides education, health care and job skills for young people in need.  On Saturday November 11th there will be a Lobster Feed at OLA benefiting Michele's good work. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to Rafiki. Please think about coming or making a donation. *Help Needed for
Christmas at Kohl

The Christmas at Kohl Holiday Boutique will be happening on Wednesday, November 29th from 5:00 – 9:00 pm.  We are looking for volunteers to help us out this afternoon and evening.  We have many different jobs and shifts that will allow you to shop and look around either before or after your scheduled shift.  This is a fun night and an easy way to give back some time to Mercy.   • Christmas at Kohl  Join us for the Christmas at Kohl Holiday Boutique which will be held on Wednesday, November 29th from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at the Kohl Mansion, 2750 Adeline Dr in Burlingame.  Over 65 local vendors will be at the event.  It is a special treat to see all those twinkling lights and large over sized Christmas trees decorating the mansion.  This is a wonderful opportunity for many local residents to get a chance to see the historic Kohl Mansion "all dressed up!"  There are light refreshments sold and holiday music and a docent presentation of the mansion are provided.  The fee is $10 for adults

COLLEGE COUNSELING

Our next big deadline is November 15th so please let me know if you have a deadline coming up. Here are some updates for the week:  

*Check your Naviance for Submissions: Teachers and Counselors are submitting your letters of recommendation.  You can check to see if everything has been submitted for you in Naviance.  If you need something to be submitted, please come by and see me or send me an email.  

 

*CSU and UC Applications are due at the end of the month: This year both common app and Naviance had problems before the November 1st deadline so be sure to get your application in well before the November 30th deadline. 

 

*Submit your test scores: Don't forget to send your SAT and ACT scores.  You can do so on www.colllegeboard.org and www.actstudent.orgPlease come by and see me if you have any questions.  

 

*Self-Care: You are all working very hard on your applications, remember to take a break for some fun.  A small break and not a lot of breaks but at least do something fun with your friends or family to break up all the work you are doing.

*Mercy Athlete of the Week:
Freshman Cross Country Runner Joanne Hui

Over the last few weeks, Joanne has risen to the challenge of training and running at a varsity level.  Her efforts at practice culminated with her performance at the WBAL championships this past Friday at the challenging Crystal Springs course in Belmont.  She improved 14 places from the first league competition held at Crystal in October and improved on her time by two minutes and 18 seconds.  Her race time of 21 minutes and 40 seconds over the hilly course averages to 7:20 per mile.  With her performance, Joanne earned an automatic qualifying bid to the Central Coast Section Championships which will be held this Saturday at Toro Park in Salinas.  Great job Joanne!

 

*Return of Fall sport uniforms:  Each athlete must have their uniform laundered and cleaned prior to returning to the Athletic Director. Uniforms need to be turned in by Thursday November 9. Any uniforms not returned will result in the family of the athlete being charged a replacement fee.

Music at Kohl VOLUNTEERS

If you are interested in volunteering at an upcoming concert, our next one is on Sunday, November 12. We need volunteers from 6-10 pm for help in the front of house (greeting patrons, distributing programs, taking tickets, ushering) and with our reception (preparing platters of food, setting up, cleaning up). It's a fun way to get to know other students, parents and community helpers. Please contact Yvonne Wun, Program Administrator for more information or to volunteer (admin@musicatkohl.org).
