*Dear Parents:

Mercy High School is embarking on a Strategic Planning process. We have engaged the Center for Strategic Facilitation to help us develop our plan. The focus question for this process is: How, in the next 5 years, can we thrive as a school with strong academic excellence and living our mission?

The actual development of the plan will take place between mid-November and the beginning of March, 2018. We are looking for 8 to 10 parents who are interested in serving on the Strategic Planning Team. The Team will include faculty and staff, students, parents, Sisters of Mercy and alumnae. Lauren Conklin, Claire Rietmann-Grout and I, along with a facilitator from the Center for Strategic Facilitation, serve as the Design Team and members of the Planning Team.

The role of the Strategic Planning Team will be to develop the strategic plan through a process that will include data analysis, historical overviews, studying trends, getting input from the Mercy community-at-large. There will be six team meetings between mid-November and early March along with three community input sessions during February. It is critical that the team members be able to attend all the team meetings. Dates for those meetings are:

                                November 13, 2017          Launch meeting

December 4, 2017            Practical visioning meeting

                                January 22, 2018              Contradictions meeting

February 5, 2018              Strategic directions meeting

March 2, 2018                   Implementation plan meeting

Each meeting will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. We will provide dinner along with lots of information and stimulating discussion.

If you are "big picture" person, if you like to make dreams into realities, if you would like to be a part of helping us develop a forward-thinking strategic plan to make Mercy the "go to" school on the Peninsula please email  or call Karen Hanrahan, Head of School, at or 650.762.1100.

*Open House...tell your friends!

Our Open House will be on Sunday November 19 from 12:00 to 3pm.  Make sure to tell all your friends who have daughters in 5th-8th grades to join us!  The afternoon will feature academic presentations, arts and athletics information, campus tours and much more. Families can register in advance on our website, and walk-ins are welcome.

*Posters and Lawn Signs for Open House
Help us promote Open House by putting up a Lawn Sign in your yard! Our Admission Team will be outside during Pick Up & Drop Off several days over the next few weeks distributing the signs. You can also pick up a sign in the Main Office. If you have the lawn stake from last year and just need a poster, you can get that from the Main Office also.

OPEN HOUSE POSTERS: We need 2-3 parent volunteers to help distribute Open House posters to the stores on Burlingame Avenue during the next week. Please contact Patricia Glasser at 650-762-1113 or if you can help. You can also pick up Open House posters and take them to other local shopping areas.

*On Wednesday Nov 1 some of our 6th period classes will be able to hear a presentation by the award winning YA and children's book author E.Lockhart.  E. Lockhart is the author of ten novels for young adults, ranging from comedies to thrillers. Her new novel, Genuine Fraud, is a suspense novel - the story of a young woman whose diabolical smarts are her ticket into a charmed life.  Ms Lockhart's book We Were Liars is the story of a beautiful and distinguished family, a private island – and a group of four friends whose friendship turns destructive. Ms Lockhart will be talking to the girls about being a working artist and ways that they, as creative people, can nurture their ideas and find their voice."She'll be talking about ways of identifying projects and getting yourself to work on them, ways of deepening your connection to your creative projects. If you've thought about becoming a designer, a novelist, a comedian, a songwriter, a filmmaker, a visual artist, a composer, a choreographer, a poet, a comic book or graphic artist, a photographer – or if you'd just like to raise your voice and have people listen -- her talk will have something in it for you."  We will have copies of her books to sell on Wednesday, and Ms Lockhart will be happy to sign and dedicate a book for/to you. The order form - click HERE - can be used to order a copy of Genuine fraud and/or We were liars even if your daughter is not able to attend the presentation. Please return these forms with exact payment by Monday Oct 30. The books can be picked up in the library on Nov 1 at 2:30.
