*Congratulations on a
Succesful Bowl-A-Thon!

Our Mercy Students have surpassed the $55K fundraising Total Goal!


Advisory top Prize Goes to Freshmen Advisory F-121, Advisor-Mary Louise Castillo in the amount of $5,909.75!   
The Top Advisory that has collected the largest amount of money will receive 3% of the total amount back to their Advisory. It will then be up to the winning Advisory what they would like to do with their money. They can plan their own pizza party; donate it back to the school or to a Mercy Charity.

Prizes for the Top Sponsorship amounts collected by a student are:

  • 1st place: $175 gift certificate package - Amira Jones, Class of 2021 ($1,740.00)
  • 2nd place: $125 gift certificate package- Kendall Thomas, Class of 2018 ($1,575.00)
  • 3rd place: $75 gift certificate package- Bronwyn Miguel, Class of 2020 ($1,500.00)
  • Individual Student prizes will be given to the students directly the week of October 15th

Soup Supper
Wednesday, October 18th 6-7:30
Our annual soup supper benefiting Catherine's Center will be on Wednesday, October 18th from 6-7:30pm  It is an inspiring and educational evening.  It includes a simple soup supper and a speaker from Catherine's Center.  The cost of the event is $10.00 per person The money goes directly to Catherine's Center, which is a transitional program for women transitioning from the justice system into society.  Catherine's Center is sponsored by St. Vincent de Paul and the Sisters of Mercy.  Students will receive 2 hours of LEARNING service hours if they attend.  If you are planning to attend, please RSVP to Angie Simonetti at asimonetti@mercyhsb.com

Radium Girls is based on the true story of the women and men who worked for the U.S. Radium Corporation in Orange, N.J., Radium Girls is a fast-paced stage play. A wry examination of the commercialization of science and the twin American obsessions with the pursuit of health and wealth makes this original drama from DW Gregory relevant and entertaining.

Freshman Retreat

Monday, October 16
Fort Miley-Ropes Course
The freshman retreat offers freshmen a chance to step away from their "inside" world and to enjoy God's creation while developing confidence, trust, support, communication, cooperation and leadership skills.  The retreat is on Monday, October 16th from 8-2:30. (Depending on traffic we can be a iittle late)  The program uses team and trust activities in combination with higher climbing elements. Below are two permission forms that need to be completed and returned to the student's religion teacher.

Junior Parents:  Kairos Retreat Information 
This week, during the junior religion classes, seniors will come and talk to them about the Kairos retreat that they can experience this year.  This is an amazing experience and opportunity for your daughters.  The spaces do fill up quickly so if you wish your daughter to attend, please encourage her to sign up.   The cost of the retreat is $200.00.  To reserve a spot we ask that you pay the entire $200 which is due by Tuesday, October 17th.  
The dates for Kairos this year are:  Monday 11/6/17-Wednesday, November 8th OR Tuesday January 9th-Thursday 1/11/18.  If you have any questions please email Angie at asimonetti@mercyhsb.com

Jostens will be on campus for a graduation order make-up date on October 25, before school in the cafeteria to accept orders for the cap and gown and graduation announcements and accessories.  You may also place your order online at jostens.com . The cap and gown unit is included in your tuition, but every senior must place their order their cap and gown.  No exceptions! COLLEGE COUNSELING

*Tri-School College Fair 
Wednesday, October 18

Serra High School
Students from Serra, Mercy and Notre Dame are invited to the Tri-School College Fair from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on October 18 in Serra's Morton Family Gymnasium
More than 125 colleges will be represented. Breakout sessions will include the UC system, the CSU system, Community College Transfer Path, and "What a College Admissions Officer looks for in an Applicant." CLICK HERE for a list of participants and CLICK HERE for more information.

 

*October 1st has come and gone and I hope all of you are working diligently on your ALL your applications.  With the upcoming long weekend, I hope you will have time to visit some schools and continue to work on your applications.  I know this part of the year is stressful so come by and see me.  If there is anything I can do, I am here for you!

CalState Apply: Be sure to complete your application early.  If any concerns come up about the application, please come by and see me and we will work on it together.  

 

Letters of Recommendation: Be sure to check your deadlines.  If you need your letter of recommendation prior to the deadline, email the teachers and counselors writing them to see if they can get them in sooner, otherwise we will submit them around your deadline.  

 

College Application Workshops: Throughout the month of October, we will be hosting application workshops after school down in Russell.  Come by for a question or two or stay for the full hour.  

 

Meetings with Mrs. O: After the college break next week, I will be sending out an invite to set up a meeting with me.  Please make sure you sign up with me for a check in on your college process.

*Mercy Athlete of the Week

Senior Golfer Katie Carolan
Katie has been a member of the Golf Team for all of her 4 years at Mercy. She has a league average of 49.8 in her 8 league matches so far this season.  She has made all of the practices and matches despite having a lingering injury. Her scores are always in the top 3, thus, assisting the golf team with their wins over Notre Dame Belmont (twice), Notre Dame San Jose, Kings Academy and a practice match against Burlingame High School. If determination can bring in the wins, then Katie is definitely your "go to" player. Finish the season strong Katie!

It is Mandatory that each family be fully registered in the Magnus system. You can only activate your daughters profile by going thru the Parents PowerSchool account. Click HERE for more information. If an athlete is not fully registered as showing a sports clearance physical form, all emergency contact information and consent to treat, they will not be allowed to practice or play until all information required is submitted. Signed athletic contracts must be checked off as well.  There will be no exceptions!

 

If your daughter is planning on playing basketball or soccer, please start the Magnus registration process now to get clearance. Get your sports physical done now. Do not wait till the last moment to make an appointment. No athlete will be allowed to start the tryouts on Oct 30 if they are not cleared to participate. 

 

Conditioning Schedule for the Fall: Meet in the Grassilli Center

  • Monday and Wednesday 3-4pm Varsity Volleyball
  • Any Winter and Spring Season Athlete: Meet in the Grassilli Center -  
    Tuesday and Thursdays 3:15-4:45pm

 

Treatment times: Any athlete who is in need of treatment for injury, Emerald will be available in Grassilli Center Monday and Wednesday from 4-5pm

  • Monday: Talk about the Chicken Burrito....tender and juicy seasoned shredded chicken breast with well seasoned pinto beans and perfectly cooked Mexican rice wrapped in an x-large flour tortilla filled with lettuce, cheese and Salsa to tie it all together.. Ask me in the morning for the vegetarian option please :=)

  • Tuesday: Tomato Macaroni Soup with French Bread Pizza 90/10 Ground Beef seasoned with our own Italian herb blend , Ground Roma Tomatoes and elbow macaroni, served with  slice of French bread topped with stewed tomatoes and shredded cheese

  • Wednesday:  Scalloped Potato and Chicken Casserole

    Thinly sliced Yukon Gold Potatoes layered with Herbed Shredded Chicken and shredded Jack and Cheddar Cheese, baked in a creamy white sauce. Served with a green Salad

  • Thursday:  Meat Ball Sub Our home made all beef meatballs served in a toasted french roll with our famous marinara sauce. Served with a side Caesar Salad.

  • Friday: BBQ Chicken with Mash Potatoes and Corn Our own dry rub blend of BBQ seasoning on 2 Drumsticks, served with our creamy mash potatoes and side of corn

MUSIC AT KOHL

Mercy Parents and Students Needed for Music at Kohl
Concert Series  
Music at Kohl Mansion opens its season on October 22 and runs through April 15, 2018. Mercy parents and students are needed as volunteers to help with front of house duties (taking tickets, distributing programs, ushering) and concert reception help (preparing food platters, setting up, serving, cleaning up) on the following Sunday evenings from about 6-10pm: 

October 22, November 12, December 17, January 21, 
February 4, March 4, March 25, April 15

 

This is a fun way to get to know other Mercy parents and students, listen to world-class chamber musicians, all while helping out Music at Kohl (non-profit chamber music concert presenter and local music education provider). Students receive service credit for hours served. For more information or to sign up to volunteer for any of the concert dates, please contact volunteer coordinator/ program administrator Yvonne Wun at admin@musicatkohl.org.
