Miller Hit's One Out Of The Park!

posted 5/9/14
Join us in congratulating Mercy High School Senior, Sabrina Miller, who has signed her letter of intent to play Softball for Notre Dame de Namur University.  Sabrina accepted the offer to play at NDNU knowing the education she will receive as well as the opportunity to play the sport she loves, would give her the full college experience.

As the Captain of the Varsity Softball team at Mercy, Sabrina has mentored her team full of first time players.  Her passion for sharing her knowledge and skill has helped to develop the team under Coach Scott Luciano.  "Sabrina was asked to take on a leadership role for her team, due to her overall softball experience and her 'Work hard, Play hard' attitude! She was appointed team captain and took a true lead by example approach, as she leads the WBAL Foothill League in home runs, slugging percentage and runs batted in.  Our season is not over yet, so I know there is even more in the tank and Brie will help the Crusaders achieve much more before we're done! Her talents will be missed at Mercy and I wish her well as she heads to NDNU to help strengthen the Argonauts softball program! Good Luck Brie!" - Coach Luciano

Sabrina's love for and ability to play the game enabled her to play "A" ball travel softball since the age of 11.  For the past 5 years, Sabrina has been the starting Center Fielder for tow of the top organizations in Northern California.  The San Jose Sharks and the San Jose Sting.  Coach Rianda, NDNU, recruited Sabrina as his shortstop, or third baseman back in August of 2012.  Since that time, Coach Rianda has also considered Sabrina to be his Cather, only time will tell...

Please come out to watch Sabrina play for the Argonauts next Fall!

Varsity Tennis Participates in the Notre Dame Belmont Tournament

posted 10/4/13

The Notre Dame varsity tennis team hosted a tournament on September 28, 2013 at the College of San Mateo. Participating in the tournament were Notre Dame Belmont, Presentation, Mercy SF, and Mercy Burlingame. Each player played a total of two matches.

The tournament gave the players an opportunity to compete against schools that they would not normally play.

“The tournament was a great way to get competition outside of the league and the venue was also perfect,” Presentation Coach Ellen Fowler said.

“The tournament was an amazing way for the girls to play a lot of matches before the season starts to get practice,” Mercy Burlingame Coach Janice O’Brien said.

“We got to play different schools we usually do not play, and it was a good experience to meet new people, practice, and bond as a team and as a community,” Sahara Sorkin, a singles player for Presentation, said.

The matches were competitive, and the games played were exhausting for some players, but the players brought optimism to the court.

“It was a tough match. We all had to be up there early in the morning, and had to play out two matches. Even though we had some people playing sick and everyone was exhausted, we were still able to win with a clean sweep,” NDB singles player Riley McGlinchey said.

“It was fun, but difficult because I kept on losing to NDB and Presentation. I am still a freshman though, so I am still hopeful on improving since this is only my second tournament so far, and I have improved a lot since then. My favorite part of the tournament was the feeling of scoring a point,” Lena Colter, a doubles player from Mercy SF, said.

“It was a really fun game even through I lost. I got some good points though. My opponents were better than me and were really competitive, but that made me want to try harder and become better,” Mercy Burlingame doubles player Alexa Oropeza said.

Overall, the tournament gave the athletes across the bay an opportunity to get better chance improve and was a success.

“It was a very successful tournament, and we learned a lot, bonded and had a great experience,” Notre Dame doubles player Bridget Moriarty said.

“I am so appreciative of Notre Dame hosting the tournament for more than forty girls since I know that it takes a lot of work. The tournament was also a great way for parents to see their kids play if they cannot during the week and are only free on the weekends,” Ellen Fowler said.

MERCY SOFTBALL PLAYERS MAKE HEADLINES...
SAN BRUNO STORM 16U TEAM ASA "B" WESTERN NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
Kesaia Langi - As one of the youngest players on the team, Kesaia was one of the San Bruno Storm super utility players as stated by coach Chris Jordan. She played 2B and all of the OF positions. Wherever she was asked to play, she played and she played with confidence. When they needed a runner or start a rally, she'd find any way to get on base, even if that's getting hit with the ball.
"I have had the honor of coaching Kesaia since she was 11 years-old and she continues to amaze as to her understanding of the game. Even as a bench player, there was never a time that she wasn't ready to go. Kesaia was a huge part of this winning season.  This is a great player, student and young lady that you have at your school and you should be proud. As her coach, I'm truly proud to have had her a part of such an amazing team. I look forward to her participation and commitment in years to come." - Christopher Jordan
