The high school has no plans or desire to increase enrollment beyond what is currently permitted. 

No. Practices and games are scheduled after regular school hours, most faculty and students will not be on campus freeing up the parking lots for additional vehicles.  These games and practices will also not conflict with school drop-off nor pick-up times. 

We understand that traffic is one of the primary concerns of the neighbors, and it will be an integral piece of our campus planning. We have already begun working with traffic engineers and our neighbors to address current concerns. The City of Burlingame is working on various solutions to explore with Mercy High School and our neighborhood. Mercy High School will work with the City of Burlingame throughout the planning phase to address all concerns brought forward from our neighbors. 

The addition of an Athletic and Student Life Center will help to relieve afternoon traffic as it will keep more students on campus and reduce the amount of cars exiting during peak hours. 

Yes, the Sisters of Mercy in Burlingame and Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Education System (MESA) have both shared their endorsements of the project and support of our moving forward.  We have met with the City of Burlingame and the Sisters of Mercy and both parties agree that we can move forward with our project separate from the Sisters of Mercy. 

It has not yet been determined how neighbors would be able to use the Center. However, the high school administration is committed to exploring those opportunities with the city and the community.

We cherish all that the property offers including its trees and open space. Feedback from the community has been clear that the tree canopy and accessible open space are important amenities in the neighborhood. On the “Info” page of this website, you will see that one of the primary objectives of the planning effort is to “protect and enhance the historic and ‘woodsy’ character of the campus while keeping it available to the public.” At a minimum Mercy will replace protected trees in accordance with the City’s Tree Ordinance. The Ordinance provides that each protected tree removed be replaced by three fifteen-gallon size or one 24-inch box size or one 36-inch box size tree. It is also important to note that any work related to the trees will be done under the guidance of a certified arborist.
