Sports Medicine

As safety is our utmost concern, Mercy provides certified athletic training coverage for all home games. We are pleased to announce that we have hired a full time, certified Athletic Trainer, Keri Sotak to coordinate our Sports Medicine and Strength & Conditioning Programs. 

She will provide thorough musculoskeletal evaluation for any orthopedic injury, hands-on treatment including home exercise program instruction for any injuries, and communicate with the team physical or physical of choice to ensure proper long term care. Student Athletes are encouraged to see Keri during lunch hours and after school.

Keri Sotak, MS, ATC, CES
Keri came to Mercy in July 2018 from the University of California, Berkeley where she worked with the Football, Women's Lacrosse, Men's Water Polo, and Baseball teams. Keri's focus is to provide emergency care, injury prevention, and injury rehabilitation to the student-athletes. She is experienced in many rehabilitation techniques and soft-tissue therapies. Keri is a NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainer and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). She is First-Aid & CPR/AED certified and also holds certifications in Graston Technique, Myofascial Decompression, and Corrective Exercise Specialist.

What is Athletic Training?

Athletic training encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of emergent, acute or chronic injuries and medical conditions. Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as an allied health care profession. Athletic Training at Mercy

Athletic injuries are bound to happen at any age, level, and in any individual. At Mercy, we strive to prevent injury and treat injury when it does happen to our student-athletes. Our Certified Athletic Trainer, Keri Sotak, implements injury prevention programs within the strength & conditioning aspects of the athletics programs. Using the latest research and trends, she incorporates sport specific exercises that will help reduce the risk of common injury for each sport during the athlete’s preseason strength & conditioning work. Mercy student-athletes are able to rehabilitate any acute and chronic injuries with Keri during the athlete’s lunch hours and after school, and can also receive immediate injury evaluation at home sporting events. Keri is well versed in a wide variety of rehabilitation techniques, soft-tissue therapies, and other interventions that will most successfully return the student-athlete safely to the sport she loves.
