The academic program at Mercy High School is designed to prepare young women for college.
A student must complete 70 units per year and 280 units in order to graduate, in addition to completing 88 community service hours. Students are required to take Religion every year. Upon completion of these requirements, students will graduate in the spring of their senior year.

Mercy requires the following minimum coursework:

Mercy High School uses the following scale to determine grades. Any honors or AP class taken is credited with an extra point in our GPA.
100-93 = A
93-90 = A-
89-87 = B+
86-83 = B
82-80 = B-
79-77 = C+
76-73 = C
72-70 = C-
69-67 = D+
66-63 = D
62–60 = D-
59-0 = F
Mercy High School’s grading scale is based on a four-point system. A student’s grade point average (GPA) is determined by dividing the total points earned by the number of classes taken.
A+ = 4.00
A = 4.00
A- = 3.67
B+ = 3.33
B = 3.00
B- = 2.67
C+ = 2.33
C = 2.00
C- = 1.67
D+ = 1.33
D = 1.00
D- = 0.67
F = 0.00
Mercy High School maintains a school-wide grading policy in order to promote accuracy, consistency and fairness in grading. Each department adheres to the scale listed above.
Grade-to-date reports are mailed to parents twice a semester and the final grade is mailed at the end of the semester. Access to electronic grades is explained below. A student's semester grade remains the official grade that is recorded on a student's transcript, and this is the only grade that is sent to other schools. A semester grade is the culmination of the entire semester's work.
Electronic Grades
Parents and students may access student grades online on PowerSchool at anytime throughout the school year. Some teachers may also update grades on Schoology as well as PowerSchool. Please check with your teacher to see if this is the case
In an effort to fully support our teachers, as they open their grade books on a continuous basis, we would like families to understand that different types of work require different amounts of time to assess. While daily work goes up quickly, longer essays and labs take longer to assess comprehensively. The average cycle for posting grades is roughly two weeks, with formative assessments going in more quickly and summative assessments plausibly taking longer.
Grade-to-date and semester grades will be posted in accordance with dates on the school calendar.
Semester grades lower than a C-
If your daughter earns a grade-to-date (non semester grade) of a D or F, it may be an indication that she may need to take additional steps to improve her grade before final exams.
If your daughter does earn a final semester grade (December or June) of D or F in a required course, she should plan to replace that grade by taking a summer course. (Your daughter's college plans and graduation requirements will dictate whether or not the course must be repeated-even if it was an elective.) Your daughter's counselors would be happy to help clarify for your family whether a grade must be replaced and/or how many units must be earned. (Please note that colleges and Mercy High School may apply replacement grades and units differently.)
