COVID and the 2022-2023 School Year

We know COVID is here to stay, and it is our goal to provide a safe space for your daughters to continue healing from the past three years and to thrive in their present and future lives.

Knowing that we need to transition to accepting a world with COVID, we will no longer be having all community members take part in a weekly testing program. This year it is our hope and expectation that we will all be honest, responsible, and join together to care for all of our community members. Students should stay home if they are not feeling well. Though there will be no required weekly testing program on campus, all students are expected to take an antigen test if they experience any symptoms. Students can receive an antigen test at any time in the Main Office as long as schools continue to receive free testing kits.

County Update:
Return to School Testing Requirement

Please note that the County of San Mateo shared on August 2, 2022 that all school community members must take an antigen test prior to returning to school. To make this county requirement easier on our families we have scheduled on campus testing next week on the following days:

  • Tuesday, August 9th - 8:30AM-3:30PM

  • Wednesday, August 10th - 8:30AM-3:30PM

  • Thursday, August 11th - 8:30AM-3:30PM

If you have tested on Mercy’s campus before, just show up! If you are new to Mercy, please click here to register for Virus Geeks. If you have no insurance please come to the Main Office for a free test kit as there is no longer federal funding for uninsured students.

If you test at Mercy, we will receive a copy of your results. If you have a test kit at home and prefer to take it on your own, please take your test within 24 hours of your return to Mercy and upload your results here. Please write your name on the test kit prior to taking a picture of it.

Vaccinations

Mercy does not require COVID vaccinations for students. It is important to note that we will always follow county and state guidelines when it comes to vaccinations so should there be a change during the year we would notify families.

It is always our goal to respect individual family decisions. We never want our students to be divided over vaccinations. We also need to acknowledge that there are certain situations that are out of our control due to some organizations we work with having vaccination policies. For example, if we hold field trips or retreats in locations that require vaccinations we cannot make exceptions for students since we do not own the space. In these rare situations unvaccinated students will not be able to participate in events.

One area of school life that will be affected by this distinction is the use of the Mercy Center Chapel. The Sisters of Mercy currently require vaccinations for chapel use. It has been three years since we have been able to use this beautiful sacred space of the Sisters of Mercy, and it is an important piece of the Mercy experience—one that we must bring back. Though unvaccinated students will not be able to join liturgies or prayer services in person, they will be able to join via a projected screen in a classroom.
