We Are Mercy
Welcome to Mercy High School, an all-girls, Catholic, college preparatory high school in Burlingame, CA. Rooted in the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy, we recognize our students for their unique gifts, encourage them to challenge themselves to reach their full potential, and support their growth as conscientious citizens who are ready to make a difference in the world.
A Singular Education for Girls
At Mercy, girls are known and accepted as individuals and encouraged to grow with confidence, knowing that our faculty, staff, and fellow students believe in them and support them throughout their high school journey and beyond. We approach education with dedication to the all-girls advantage coupled with co-education experiences through our Tri-School curriculum and extracurriculars with Serra and Notre Dame high schools.

Who We Are: Mission & History
Walk through the doors of Kohl Mansion and you are welcomed by the beauty and history of an all girls school grounded in tradition and moving forward with innovation. Since 1931, Mercy High School has honored the traditions of our school, our Catholic faith, and the Sisters of Mercy, while also adapting and growing with the changing times. We take pride in our ability to balance our Mercy Core Values with innovative programming that offers our students over 45 AP and honors courses, robust STEM classes, extensive elective programming, and the Pathways Program to dive deep into fields of study with specialized curriculum, mentorships, and capstone projects. Educating the next generation of women leaders requires fostering curiosity, courage and compassion. Rooted in our Mercy mission, these values shape the experiences and opportunities we create for our students. At the core of our mission is helping young women grow in confidence and with courage as they discover who they are and the impact they can have on the greater community.

Our Mission Statement
We, the community of Mercy High School, Burlingame, a Catholic College Preparatory school sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, educate young women of diverse religious, ethnic, social, and economic backgrounds to reverence and foster the dignity of each person; to create a community of hospitality; to lead with integrity and compassion; to strive for excellence; and to proclaim Gospel values in word and action.
Mercy In Burlingame
In 1854, eight Sisters of Mercy, led by Mother Mary Baptist Russell, left Kinsale, Ireland for San Francisco. Within three years, they opened St. Mary’s Hospital, and by 1924, they purchased the Kohl Mansion in Burlingame which served as their new Motherhouse. In 1931, they opened Mercy High School, Burlingame, where more than 8,000 young women have since found their voices and their purpose.
Mercy Education: A Global Network
As part of the Mercy Education System of the Americas (MESA), our school is connected to a global network of 40 high schools, 20 elementary schools, and 17 colleges and universities. Together, we empower young people to learn, lead, and love boldly in the spirit of Catherine McAuley.
