Requirements for Four-Year Private Colleges
Requirements vary, often depending on one's intended major. For example, a student applying for admission in an Engineering major would be expected to have taken more math courses than a student applying in an English major. Therefore, it is necessary to consult the catalog of each private college to determine its own particular requirements.
If you are not certain about which private college you would like to attend, it is advisable to follow the general admission requirements for the University of California, since UC's requirements will meet the admission requirements of most private colleges in the United States.
Requirements for California Community Colleges
Graduation from high school or successful completion of the California High School Proficiency Examination (GED) is a prerequisite for admission. Persons over 18 years of age may be admitted even though they are not high school graduates. However, some specific high school courses are required for admission to certain majors, e.g. programs in the health services, engineering and others.
