Mercy Girls Participate in World-Wide Movement…Raising awareness of the earth’s carbon dioxide levels
Mercy High School, Burlingame students participated in the International Day of Climate Action, along with people in 181 countries at over 5245 events, by forming the number 350 on the green to help raise awareness of the need to reduce our carbon footprint. 350 is the level of carbon dioxide for which life on the planet is sustainable. Leading scientists say our current levels are already at 390. Sr. Pat Ryan of the Sisters of Mercy, Science teacher Jen Lambdin and the Mercy "Roots and Shoots Club," who are passionately concerned about the fate of our planet, organized the Mercy event to participate in the world-wide movement to raise awareness of the earth’s carbon dioxide levels as promoted through www.350.org an international campaign dedicated to creating an equitable global climate treaty that lowers carbon dioxide below 350 parts per million. The photos from all over the world were sent to the Secretary General of the UN to raise awareness before the Copenhagen Climate Conference in December. Visit www.350.org to see a slideshow of photos from events in every corner of the earth!
