Mercy High School is a Catholic, college preparatory school for young women located 20 minutes south of San Francisco in the hills of Burlingame. Founded in 1931, Mercy High School has a maximum enrollment of 500 girls in grades 9-12. Mercy is sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy and has an outstanding reputation for excellence in academic and extra curricular programs.


ATHLETIC DIRECTOR 

Mercy High School in Burlingame, California, is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Athletic Director beginning July 1, 2015. This person will be responsible for leading a growing program for 400 young women participating on 23 teams in 14 sports. In addition to leading the current athletic program the successful candidate will be able to articulate a vision to raise the current program to the next level.

The Athletic Director provides direction and oversight for all aspects of the school’s athletic program including interscholastic sports, pool and tennis court maintenance and rentals, annual budgets, a Parent Booster Club and Girls’ Athletic Association, staffing, supervision and evaluation of coaches. As Mercy High School does not have playing fields or a gymnasium on its property,  the Athletic Director must work with other high schools, the city Parks and Recreation Departments and community colleges to negotiate playing time for all home games. The AD also serves as the liaison with the CIF Central Coast Section along with being the school’s chief NCAA compliance officer.

A Bachelor Degree is required along with administrative and/or coaching experience. The position requires strong organizational skills, budgeting skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with many constituencies while communicating consistent expectations for players, coaches, and parents in keeping with the school’s mission. This is a full-time, 12-month position that requires both school day and many after-school hours. Salary commensurate with experience; benefits provided.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT CENTER DIRECTOR

 

Mercy High School in Burlingame, California, is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Academic Support Center Director beginning with the 2015/2016 school year. This person will be responsible managing the tutoring program, providing curriculum support for teachers, manage the testing center, partner with the Academic Mentor and Educational Support (AMES) program, oversee the lunchtime study program for students who need academic support, facilitate the peer tutoring program and provide support to the counseling department to monitor student progress.

As a member of the Mercy High School staff, the Academic Support Center (ASC) Director is expected to be supportive of the Mission and values of Mercy High School and the Sisters of Mercy, possess strong interpersonal and customer service skills, and demonstrate self-directed skills while also being able to perform as an integral member of a collaborative team. The rigor of the position required strong organization skills, detail orientation, and the ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines. Furthermore, this position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of audiences.

A Bachelor Degree is required along with experience in a background in special education, specifically cognitive psychology and behavioral psychology. The position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to work cooperatively with students and faculty, strong computer skills, the ability to multi-task, a high tolerance for interruptions and repetitious questions. This is a full-time, 10-month position that requires both school day and some after-school hours. Salary commensurate with experience; benefits provided.

SOCIAL STUDIES – FULL TIME

Mercy High School, an all-girls Catholic college preparatory school has an opening for a full-time teacher of Social Studies for the 15-16 academic year. Successful candidates will have strong knowledge of World, History, Global Studies and U.S. History and be able to teach these areas with confidence. Position may include teaching AP Government.

The teacher is responsible for the overall coordination of teaching in his/her subjects including executing well-developed lesson plans, accurate assessment of student’s progress, participation in department meetings and team planning sessions, supervision of students, willingness to learn new methodology, and ability to undertake co-curricular responsibilities.

 

Minimal qualifications:

  • CA Secondary Teaching Credential
  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field
  • 3+ years teaching experience preferably in a secondary school environment

 Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Strong computer skills, including iPad platform

ENGLISH and HISTORY TEACHER – FULL TIME 

 Mercy High School, an all-girls college preparatory secondary school has an opening for a full-time English and History teacher for the 15-16 academic year. Position will teach a varied English curriculum including reading, composition, literature analysis and grammar. Position will also teach a varied History curriculum including AP Government and World History. Reporting to the English and History department chairpersons, the teacher is responsible for the overall coordination of teaching in his/her subjects including executing well-developed lesson plans, accurate assessment of student’s progress, participation in department meetings and team planning sessions, supervision of students, willingness to learn new methodology, ability to undertake co-curricular responsibilities. Ideal candidate has knowledge of attending and/or teaching in Catholic schools and a strong desire to serve in the vocation of Catholic education.

Minimal qualifications:

  • B.A in English or History minimum
  • CA Secondary Teaching Credential

 Additional preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in English, History or related topic
  • Minimum 3 years teaching experience, preferably in a Catholic secondary school environment
