International Applicants

Since the 1960s Mercy High School Burlingame has been committed to creating Global Citizens through its various International Student Programs. We, the community of Mercy High School, Burlingame, a Catholic college preparatory school sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, educate young women of diverse religious, ethnic, social and economic backgrounds to reverence and foster the dignity of each human person, to create a community of hospitality, to lead with compassion, to strive for excellence and to proclaim Gospel values in word and deed.

Through our commitment to hospitality, we create an international experience that equips our students with educational excellence, cultural knowledge, social skills and integrity to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world. Learning side-by-side with our already diverse student population will help prepare students for their experience at the university level.

We are excited to be partnered with the Cambridge Institute of International Education for our applicants who are coming directly from China and Korea and do not have family to stay with in the area. Hosting an International Student:

Mercy High School has partnered with GP-Homestay on their international program. GP-Homestay is an educational service company that provides quality homestays for international students who attend American high schools.

Our students enjoy getting involved and learning more about American culture. This is also a great opportunity for your family to learn more about a different culture and way of life.

Host families receive a monthly stipend to cover any costs that arise from having an extra person in your home. Host families have access to ongoing support from a local Residential Coordinator. GP-Homestay provides a Program Solutions Team who provide translation and conflict resolution service should that need arise. We also provide orientation and training for each host family as well as monthly check-ins and quarterly events.

You are welcome to host a student for one or two semesters, but there is also the possibility of choosing to host again the following year. The students typically study in the United States with the intention of graduating from an American high school and going on to an American college or university.
